Congrats to all the campers who trekked 4 miles into Trinity Alps back country to Camp Unalayee. At over 6,000 feet, the air was crisp, warm during the day, brisk at night, with an inch of snow upon our arrival. Activities included hiking, crafts, archery, watercraft, fishing, and lots of campfire camaraderie.
Additional Navigators Committee members now include
Ed Vail (everything)
Rick Armstrong Shaul (senior Navigator events)
We’ve just added a couple of members to the Navigators Committee, so for your reference here’s the current list of Committee members:
Dan Harper, chair
The Committee oversees the Chapter, screens leaders, looks after insurance, and supports our fabulous leaders. Please feel free to contact any of us with any questions! You can email the Committee chair by using the form below:
Navigators USA headquarters has let us know that we’re now officially Chapter 42! We’re thrilled that we have now received official status with Navigators USA!
And the Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto (UUCPA) has just voted to become our sponsoring organization. The chartering organization representative will be Dan Harper, and members of the chapter committee will include Barbara Schonborn, liaison to the UUCPA Board.
We’re forming a Navigators USA chapter in Palo Alto! Navigators is a bias-free coeducational scouting program, and to learn more click here.
We’re currently planning to meet on Sunday afternoons twice a month, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto (UUCPA). UUCPA has indoor meeting rooms, a covered outdoor meeting area, and an outdoor area with a fire-pit that we could potentially use. They are also next to Mitchell Park.
We will be starting off with a Junior Navigators program, for boys and girls aged 7 to 10. (We are extending the age slightly until we get the Senior Navigators group started, so 11-ish is okay.) Navigators chapters are required to “make outdoors activities, such as hiking, canoeing, and camping, part of the program,” and we will make outdoors activities a big priority.
At this writing, we have a dozen kids signed up already, and we are hearing from more families who might also be interested. If you’re interested, you can contact Nathan Harris, one of the adult leaders, at navigatorspaloalto-at- gmail -dot- com — or Dan Harper, for the chapter commitee, at danharper -at- uucpa -dot- org.
